building deptford
The brief: Design an A2 print responding to the area of Deptford.
I recognised that in my role as a visitor to Deptford I should give voice to the residents through my solution.
So I designed a ‘build your own high street’ linocut print for the people of Deptford, London, to fill in, build, and use to show what they want to see in their high street, responding to the recent rapid changes, and gentrification of their area. The print also looks to celebrate the history and character of the iconic high street of Deptford through illustrating its architecture.
The print includes 10 fold up high street buildings complete with three market stalls, a park bench, and the iconic Deptford anchor.
*exhibited in ‘Now, then, Deptford’ at The Artworks Creekside, 6th June 2018
